Wollongong Wolves Football Club is excited to announce that former Socceroo and Sydney FC legend Alex Brosque will join the club in a part time mentoring role for the 2023 NPL season.

Alex enjoyed an illustrious playing career which saw him represent Australia and become Sydney FC’s club captain and all-time leading goal scorer with 67 goals. His career also included stints with Brisbane Roar, Shimizu S-Pulse and Al Ain. Alex announced his retirement in 2019.

Alex is excited to be joining a club so rich in history and helping the next generations of players. “David is a good mate of mine and when he asked me if I would consider helping him at the Wolves, I jumped at the opportunity. Hopefully, I can pass on my experience to the players and in particular, work with the strikers to achieve their goals” Alex Brosque said.

Brosque concluded, “The game has given me so much and now an opportunity has presented itself to give back to the next generation of elite footballers. I am really excited and looking forward to meeting and working with the players in the preseason and throughout the 2023 season”.

Incoming head coach, David Carney was delighted that his good friend would be on board as a mentor for the 2023 season. “I am thrilled that Alex accepted this part time mentoring role. He has reached the highest level in the game and his experience will be invaluable to the players and the club” David Carney said.

Carney concluded. “Alex is a great role model for all players and his career speaks for itself. He brings with him a huge amount of football understanding and experience which is required at the elite level. I am sure the players, and in particular the strikers, will get so much out of working with Alex”.

CEO Strebre Delovski said “On behalf of the Wollongong Wolves Football Club, I would like to officially welcome Alex to the club. We are committed to taking the club to the next level and having Alex onboard will only assist in achieving that goal. Alex is highly respected in the game and his thorough understanding will only benefit the players and the club”.
